FC 1.0.46 ReInstalled Success!

Post by irussphone » Sat Jan 12, 2019 11:20 pm

From all of the feedback that I have taken from this Forum I decided to give 1.0.46 another try since all of my hardware worked so well with 1.0.44.
So...I took out my 128GB Samsung SD card and long formatted it with Windows 10 formatting (called ExFat….an updated FAT32 that allows more than 4GB on a SD card) just to make sure that it's ready to use properly. I then installed all of 1.0.46 very carefully observing all installation techniques per the Hubsan video. I copied the camera update files to the SD card and updated it. This part is always a bit confusing because my setup doesn't flash, the red light just stays on constantly and never goes off. I started a stopwatch and after 6 minutes went by and no activity seemed to be going on, I turned off the Zino, took out the SD card and deleted those two files and put it back in the quad. I then turned all off.

I turned on the Transmitter first, then enabled the app, then turned off my wifi for my phone, then connected Tx/Phone cord to my iPhone 7+, THEN turned on the Zino. It immediately asked to format my SD card and I said yes and it did so. It then immediately started compass calibration animation and so I completed it successfully. It connected quicker than it ever has before, about a minute wait, and then I did Horizontal calibration and connected to Hubsan wifi. Set to 1080p 60fps and video looked good. Performed auto take off and no problems...it was VERY windy blowing about 20mph but it held position okay given that. Then I took it up to about 30 meters and hovered for 5 minutes or so with video recording. Did not have any disconnections at all and video looked great!

I didn't have time to fly anymore than that today but I hope to wring it out more tomorrow. So the only thing I did that I didn't do before was to long format my SD Card with ExFAT. I think I did a quick format previously but why that would matter I don't know...or maybe I didn't wait long enough on the Camera Update for it to finish??? But it appears to be working fine so far now. I'll post video later, just wanted to get this up as I have been a big nay sayer for 1.0.46 until now.

I had a similar problem (the red diode was constantly on, but the firmware of the camera v0,3,3 was not installed). I formatted the SD card with a drone, pulled the SD card out of the drone, installed it on the computer, and transferred the files with the camera firmware v0,3,3. After that, without problems, everything was established on the drone.

Hubsan specifically mentions in the Zino user manual (FAQ section, page 22, point 6) that the "video software upgrade" (aka camera firmware ugrade) does not support "EXFAT32" formated SD cards. (well, EXFAT32 is a bit confusing, Microsoft themselves just call it exFAT)
So it's not a surprise that the upgrade doesn't succeed with an exFAT formated SD card.

Another thing. Does anyone here know for sure whether the Zino's camera firmware can be "downgraded" to a lower firmware version (like from v0.3.3 to v0.2.1) or if the existing firmware can really be "re-flashed" (e.g. flashing v0.2.1 again when v0.2.1 is already installed) ?
I just ask because manufacturers of cameras often only support upgrading of firmware to a higher version.

But I did use exfat and it did work and yes you can install a lower level version of firmware if you have it. I went from 1.0.46 to 1.0.44 and worked fine. And now back to 1.0.46.

You DO NOT connect your PHONE to WiFi. When you go to settings, where it asks "WiFi or Bluetooth"that means the drone to remote,or for when you are not using the remote, and are using your phone as a joystick. But,do not connect the phone using WiFi. That cuts your range down to 200m+-.

You don't need any SD card to update the FC.
You don't need to format anything.
All you need is windows PC (or windows virtual machine), a USB lead and the updater tool .... :o
You don't even need a battery in the quad.
Takes about 30 seconds :D

True dat...but you do need a SD card if you are going to complete the install with the Camera firmware :D

Well, today was a totally different story. After connecting last night easily, when I went to the field I couldn't connect at all. I tried every combination and then I took out the SD Card and it flew 500m away and back with no connection problems...great...there was the problem but then after I powered down and got another battery and fired up again (without the SD Card) I couldn't get it to connect at all and I worked on it for about an hour.

So I got a FAT32 SD Card and flashed the Camera Update again and it started flashing this time instead of staying solid red...then after about 30 seconds of flashing it stopped and then after about 10 seconds the red LED just stayed on so I turned everything off.

Setup everything and it connected right away and flew up 20 or 30 meters, stay connected but no SD Card so no video. Came down and put in 128gb exfat formatted sd card and no connection at all. Put in FAT32 sd card and connected immediately but that sd card too slow for video but did take a couple of photos. Turned off everything and turned all back on and it connected again. Looks like that sd card is a problem. The problem is that it works intermittently but not consistently.

Here is my question...can I format the 128 gb sd card in ntfs format? Is that FAT32 compliant enough? My Windows 10 computer only shows EXFAT and NTFS as formatting options???

True indeed but the subject was "FC 1.0.46 ReInstalled Success!"
The camera firmware is totally independent. :)

So I'm getting a true FAT32 SD Card and flashing the Camera Update again and see what that does.
I'm not sure when people will start to realise that 99% of Zino connection issues revolve around the SD card :o
All the nonsense about reinstalling everything is just a smokescreen, when the elephant in the room is staring you in the face :)

Pete...I'm a true believer now!

I had to get a third party software to run on my Windows 10 that let me format my Samsung SD Card to FAT32 and all is well now.
