After update, Zino will not pair to controller or show network

Post by me_e841aWTSUy » Mon Dec 17, 2018 6:07 pm

I received the Zino which initially worked with no issue, without enabling USB Debugging.
Paired to transmitter with no problem and first flight was a success.

I did not note the version of android application, or any other versions as I was not expecting any issues.

However, I decided to update the Zino after seeing your update video and followed all of the steps in the same order as shown in video.
  • ZINO V.1.0.43 (firmware for flight control board)
  • ZINO_G-V3.0.2.1 (firmware for gimbal)
  • ZINO_IT-V0.2.1.ub25(firmware for camera board)
After this the Zino would not pair to the controller.
I then updated the application to most recent Google Play Version 1.6.3

The Transmitter is recognised by the application but no network appears under "Controls" > "Set Transmitter and aircraft connection" even after multiple refreshes.

I have since tried following, this new Android guide: https://forum.hubsan.com/download/file.php?id=37 which involves enabling USB debugging.
(Really, that should not be the default method in future, very insecure for users.)

I have tried redoing each step of the update and for the part with the SD update, using different SD Cards. (3 SD cards, two high speed 64gb and 128gb + 1 4gb slow card)

Outside the application, I cannot find a Zino network on two android devices or a Macbook (Unsure if a mac would detect it)

Things to rule out:
  • USB C Cable (Worked first flight)
  • Mobile Device itself, LG G6 on Oreo (Worked first flight, no changes in between)
  • Transmitter (Was not updated, no file in download or instructions to update so cannot attempt.)
Shows: Model HT016B Hardware Version 1.0.0 Transmitter Version HT016B_RP_V0.1.1
I have contacted Hubsan through chat and was told engineering will investigate.
There does not seem to be a method to reset the Zino, though the nice representative in chat told me an engineer may have access to an old firmware.
Which, at this point I would be nervous trying a rollback.

I am a long time customer with no previous issues.
I feel like an idiot telling so many of my friends about, only to say on Monday that I have no footage and drone does not work after one flight.

Hoping a resolution can be found soon for this as I was happy to see Hubsan maturing as a company with this product.
I love an underdog, don't want to revert to DJI Spark or other big name brand.

Currently awaiting a response...

I hope so far I have added enough detail of the problem, but here is a video of the light sequence when the Zino powers on.

I had the same problem. The Zino didn't automatically connect so I hit the not connected button which took me to the WiFi settings on my phone. I found the Hubsan signal and typed in the password 12345678 and it connected. No problem after that.

Not the same issue, as mentioned I cannot find the Zino network outside the application or on another device...
Thanks for the password though, if the network ever appears after I receive support from Hubsan I'll try that

Hello DonHeintz ,

For this issue ,would you mind to try to connect the phone with the drone and check if there have wifi signal on the phone?

Secondly ,would you mind to provide the video for demonstrating the issue that the transmitter can't connect with Zino?because we just see the Zino video.

I thought perhaps the sequence of lights on the Zino would be of significance.

I will need to get another phone so I can record my own phone not receiving WiFi from the Zino.

Just to confirm, you have read my original message right?
You opened by saying "Hello DonHeintz", he is not the original poster and does not have the same issue as me at all.

As described, the Zino does not give a WiFi signal to connect to.

Just to quote my original message:
  • I have since tried following, this new Android guide: https://forum.hubsan.com/download/file.php?id=37 which involves enabling USB debugging.
  • Outside the application, I cannot find a Zino network on two android devices or a Macbook
So what is it you want me to record on video?
The original method without USB debugging OR the method with USB debugging?
As I had no problem at all before the update using the normal method.

Please confirm you've read my original post and understand the issue.

Kind regards

I received the zino two days ago and wanted to update it to that version, because I lack camera options. I wait for you to be answered with the solution to the connection problem

I had exactly the same issue. No connection during multiple attempts after installing the FC 1.0.44 update. Remembering the WIFI fix, I scanned for the Hubsan WIFI signal, entered the password and voila! It still can take multiple attempts to bind. Also, The FC 1.0.43 firmware update caused a 2 to 3 second lag between control input and aircraft reaction. This lag increased with distance although the bind was never lost. Coming from flying fixed wing aircraft, any lag is alarming. It also is becoming increasingly frustrating to have to spend time getting the transmitter/phone (android) and Zino to bind. How about coining a new term? If communication doesn't occur the first time after powering up the systems, I believe I will refer to this phenomenon as
"zinoing". As in, "Hold on, it's zenoing again. Let me reboot." I've had the Zino for a week now. Logged half a dozen flights. Very stable, I am impressed with it as a camera platform. Videos appear crisp with good clarity and resolution in normal lighting situations. Video begins to become grainy after the sun goes down. Haven't flown yet with last firmware update (.44), still taking baby steps and will report after next flights.
