Increase speed in GPS mode & remove max height restriction
Increase speed in GPS mode & remove max height restriction
Hello, my first post here.
Have a Hubsan H501S with advanced controller (bought 08/2018).
Happy with the drone so far, but I would like to set the max. speed
in GPS mode a little bit higher than currently 4m/s. It seems to be
much faster in altitude hold mode.
And I can't get the drone higher than 250m. Would like to remove that
restriction.
My drone came with the following firmware versions:
H906A V 1.1.16 and 501SS V 2.1.29 / V 1.1.41
I already googled and have seen videos on youtube showing that this should be
pretty easy to do. However, none of the tools found for download, both on
the Hubsan website and in drone forums, seem to work as they appear to be
for older firmware versions.
Can someone here please guide me where I could find a working modding tool
for my drone?
Thanks
Luminous

Re: Increase speed in GPS mode & remove max height restriction
Hello,
Sorry for there is no working modding tool to remove the restriction
The limit height is 250 meter in GPS mode. You can fly more higher in altitude mode.

Re: Increase speed in GPS mode & remove max height restriction
Hi Alisa
thanks for your prompt reply.
So higher is possible, but only in altitude hold mode. It might be a bit risky though.
I wanted to explore some very high cliffs (approx. 600m). Take off from a beach below,
ascent to 650m, then hover and fly above the cliff edge.
Question: If I for some reason lost orientation in FPV (there may be strong winds at the
edge which could blow the drone landwards in altitude mode) and had to switch on GPS again
for RTH to get it back, what will it do? Will it attempt to go down to 250m (crash likely)?
Thanks

Re: Increase speed in GPS mode & remove max height restriction
if the height restriction stops you flying from the beach. go to the top of the cliffs and take off (if possible).your altitude then would register 0 and explore top down.no height limit to worry about.
and with that firmware there is a mod tool that will let you change the settings on the eeprom.

@magicmannst
That particular spot of the cliffs is inaccessible from the top, unless you are
a professional mountain climber (I'm not).
I would of course be very interested in the modding tool you mentioned. Do you
possibly have it's exact name or even a download link?
I tried
https://www.drones4.life/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/H501s-firmware-01-2017.zip
https://www.hubsan.com/support/files/upgrade/H501_Upgrade_Software.zip
but none of them works.
Attached hereto is a photo showing the firmware version of my drone.
Thanks

Re: Increase speed in GPS mode & remove max height restriction
You need to find a mod tool that supports FC 1.1.41. The ones I downloaded stop at FC 1.1.38 so it is hunt and peck. he newer the quad the harder it is to find the right mod tool. Been there and quit saving copies that would not work for me. I just checked the 4 version I downloaded and they do not support FC versions above 1.1.38 for the H501S)Luminous wrote: ↑Tue Sep 04, 2018 6:29 pm@magicmannst

Since it got my interest again I asked tow guys who should know. One who posted a mod tool and another from the UK who is quite knowledgeable.
I suggest you join Quads and Mods or the Hubsan H501 /H502 / H122 Facebook groups and pose question to see if someone can point you to the mod tool that will work for FC 1.1.41 and RX 2.1.29. There are some really smart peeps up on those groups verses there.
Also height restriction is for GPS and manual modes. put back into GPS mode for safety
After further research the FC mod tool in the Files Section of Quad & Mods will support FC 1.1.41 if you use the EEPROM tab according to the poster. So go there on Facebook, give it a try and let me know via a PM.
Re: Increase speed in GPS mode & remove max height restriction
@ justjarhead
I use GPS mode only when doing videos and when I am flying that far away or up so that I don't see the drone
anymore. Close by I never had a need to use GPS to return back to safety. I am flying RC planes since 30
years and I am used to be careful. A RC plane won't stay in the air like a drone but rather crash and we are talking
about much more money as for a 200€ drone.
Had hoped that Hubsan-Alisa (obviously a Hubsan employee) would tell me here what happens when I go above
250m in altitude mode and then switch GPS on. Will it go down to 250m or will it crash? Well, I could test on the field
behind my house before trying the cliffs. Result in both cases (if the electronic is not acting as expected) would be a
crash, hence my hope to get a Hubsan official statement here.
All that nice electronic is not be trusted. My RC planes, I always fly without it.
Re. the mod tool, I will join that group in a while but first have to create a facebook account. Not so much in social
media stuff...
Thanks

Re: Increase speed in GPS mode & remove max height restriction
From the Face book group if you change the ep_altitude limit from 250 to 0 you remove the altitude restriction in GPS mode where it applied so all I can say is try to mod it.
