Re: H501S X4 flyaway
I just bought this drone but the pro model. This is my first one I was excited to learn everything about it because my wife got it for me for my Birthday. I studied the manual and went over all the set ups 3 times to practice when I felt it was time to try my first flight it was a nice calm day ,no wind I had my GPS on and ALTITUDE hold on, i wanted to practice low level up and down and directions. Had no problem activating the motors I tried that a few times was working well. So I lifted off and took it up about 10 ft and was going to fly it to the empty lot across from my house when it was almost like someone took over the flying. It took off between my house and my neighbors house. I freaked out it wouldn't do anything I tried. I have a bad back and cant run , I went to the direction I last saw it going and figured it had crashed because I couldn't see or hear it at all. I was panicky because it was my first flight and I thought I had messed it up. Then I remembered I had the camera on and thought I could see where it crashed to find it when I saw it was still flying and moving fast . Now I was really worried because it is all desert behind my house for miles. I tried to get to the opening behind my house to try to see when i thought my best bet was to get it to return home so i turned off the controller. When o got around behind my house i started looking in the sky trying to find it and saw a spot not sure if it was a bird i kept watching as it got closer i saw that it was my drone. It flew itsef home and landed in my front yard. Does anybody know if there is a fix for the flyaway problem? I'm askeered to try flying it again.lol my wife will be so upset if she finds out I cant use this, she was so happy because she got this for me and knew i was excited about it. BTW I bought her a Mercedes Benz for her birthday and she can use hers lol. Any help with this is appreciated greatly . Thanks

The key question is before you took off how many satellites did the Quad have hooked up and how many did the transmitter have?silverptirone wrote: ↑Mon Aug 20, 2018 9:05 amThanks for all your answer ,
I just want to say that while the take off and perhaps 1 minute , the quad was in GPS Mode , then when i try to keep the control I change to altitude Mode, and also RTH , but Nothing happen , so i just thing that the GPS was in error , and i'm not sure about the coordinates on the transmitter after the fall .
I spent 4hours in a corn fields , if the quad was there i think that I find it .
Thanks
excuse me for my poor English ...![]()
While flying in AltHold did your quad drop GPS connections? If so it explains the flyaway and no return to home. It could also have lostconnection to the 2.4g control signal ignoring RTH and switch on of GPS. Both issues happen due to interferance in area you flying in. It has happened to me in WiFi flight. This has also happened with faulty GPS modules.
Try always to take off with 6 or more satllites hooked up. ( I won't fly unless quad has 11 and transmitter is above 6. Take off in GPS mode and once it is flying correctly in GPS mode and has locked satellites you can then switch to altitude hold. Periodically flip GPS back on to ensure the quads GPS is still locked. If locked it will hover in place until you put back in AltHold where it will maintain altitude but drift due to no GPS enabled. Monitor your screen to make sure you are not loosing satellites. There are failsafe so that if you loose 2.4g contoll signal to quad it will return to home(point of take off. For RTH must be in GPS mode to function. It will not function with GPS off.
Do this short test periodically to ensure GPS is Ok. After whriling around in AltHold I flip up my GPS switch and it is like hitting the brakes on a car when sticks are in neutral position.
Are you sure the quad had 6 satlites or more when you took off. On the H501A you can set it to not arm the motors if no GPS lock of less than 6 satelites.
A Very Unhappy Hubsan Customer

You say you had GPS on AND altitude hold on , you can't have , it is a toggle switch for one or the other . Make sure you have the switches 1 to 4 as follows down up down down and calibrate your sticks to make sure they are not acting on their own ,also only take off when you have about 10 satellites on drone and 5 or 6 on controller
Good luck with your second flight , I would take off away from any buildings

Btw had mine a while now and no issues except human error
