H109S help needed please
I have an H109S I have hardly used and have just tried to fly it further away for the first time and it only manages 30m vertical right above me and 70m horizontal at only 5m high before it loses signal and stops responding to the controller and video signal on the handset is breaking up.
I have the aerials all pointing correctly as per the manual and have tried taking them off and putting them back on and also adjusting the 5.8GHZ setting as per the manual but nothing has helped. With the limited range it is nothing more than an over expensive toy which my childrens drones can out fly and cost a fraction of the price.
Is there anything I can try to fix it or does it sound like the 5.8GHZ transmitter/receiver isn't working? I'm really disappointed with it as all the reviews say it's great and good for 1000m+ range so why have I ended up being stuck with a range of only 70m.

Re: H109S help needed please
I wish I was familiar with the 109S so I could offer comments but I am not. I suggest you go to one of the Hubsan Groups up on Facebook to get help. People in those forums have more knowledge than Ailsa and will give you things to look for in a few minutes.
Good luck

Re: H109S help needed please
Hello ,
May I know where did you fly the drone?would you mind to enter into the RSSI mode and record the video for us?
The way to enter into the RSSI mode as attached below
Set up both drone and transmitter for flight, pass compass calibration and then switch the transmitter off, but leave the drone on. Then, hold down the Exit key (Advanced transmitter) and keep holding it while you switch the transmitter on. You should see some numbers come up on the screen that were not present before. We call those the RSSI values (received signal strength indication)- and they tell us how powerful a particular signal is.
Keep an eye on the 2.4 numbers and 5.8 numbers and move the transmitter around 30 feet (10m) away from the aircraft. While moving away, note how high the 2.4 signal and 5.8 signal strength on both transmitter and aircraft are- observe for a while, watch how they drop and record the video for us.Hope will help you.

Re: H109S help needed please
Sorry may I know your H109S is the one with advanced edition or professional edition?
Re: H109S help needed please
Thank you for the replies. The aerials are tight on both handset and drone so not a loose aerial issue.
Ailsa thank you for those instructions that is great I will try that and video on my phone. I have the standard edition of the 109s.
Also I am flying the drone in 2 places, one down my local park when no one is about so is flat and open but surrounded by houses so potential for interference. However the second location is on open ground just outside my village with clear line of sight so no buildings or trees in the way. and no potential for interference. I am standing pointing the handset directly at the drone and when it loses control I have to put my arms outstretched and start moving towards the drone to get control back of it. I have also noticed it acts erratically as the signal goes. I always fly in GPS mode for safety reasons so when the signal does drop the drone holds position. I have no trust in it to fly out of GPS mode.
I will try those instructions for signal strength as that is a great way to see what is going on.

Re: H109S help needed please
Hi Ailsa I have taken the video and also took some photos. Strangely once it was in the RSSI mode it managed to go 190m horizontal and 65m vertical before losing reception so much improved on what it was but still only a fraction of what it is supposed to be capable of.
Do I just post them on here or do I need to send them to you?

You haven't shared on the forum which Controller you have. Is it the Standard H901A or the Advanced H906A?sp0oner wrote: ↑Thu Aug 09, 2018 5:31 pmHi Ailsa I have taken the video and also took some photos. You also have not shared your rssi reading so forum users can't tell which may be the problem.
I also cannot tell if you are loosing flight control, telemetry or fpv or all three but is sounds like you have an antenna connection problem in the controller. If you are capable of removing a few JIS standard screw you may want to open up the controller and examine the antenna connections to make sure that they are firmly seated. This has been a common problem for many users.
I just found an improperly installed antenna in my H501A causing my FPV nightmare. So did another user who was experiencing FPV only issues. Both of our H501 X$ quads had the antenna for 5.8g installed horizontally in the LED pod and not vertically limiting our FPV range to less than 50 meters.
Re: H109S help needed please
Thanks for the info. My controller is the standard one and has the 2 ports on the bottom of it. Here is a photo of the handset at 190m range where it lost control today
I am losing flight control, at this point the FPV is still working just, it is starting to break up. Telemetry on the handset is still updating.
Here are the figures for 31m away
and one for handset next to the drone
When it loses control the drone basically just jumps about abit, it doesn't lose or gain height or start flying off thankfully but that's why i've kept it permanently in GPS mode so it holds position. Today it did start to return to me which is the first time it's done that but it didn't come all the way home, it just seemed to come back to in range where I could control it again.
I also took videos as requested by Ailsa but I can't attach them to this reply as video files will be too big. Will they have to be hosted on youtube etc?

Re: H109S help needed please
When RTH is initiated by lost control signal it will continue to RTH until Quad gets a good control signal again terminating the lost connection failsafe.
To me the problem seems to be the controller tx output possibly being either a bad 2.4g antenna, a bad connection to the antenna or a transmit problem in controller. I say this partly because you say telemetry received is ok at point of failure so the 109S is transmitting telemetry fine while it looked like TX rssi was low.
