H501S-S Standard TX upgrade

I just picked up an H501S-S with standard transmitter and absolutely love it. I see many people are doing the antenna upgrades for the standard TX. Its simple to do and the kits are readily available. Do you recommend that mod and are there any disadvantages? I saw a youtuber (elecifun I think) who found performance differences between 14dbi and 9dbi (or 5 I think) antennas.
