New H501M X4 with questions

It appears that this model (H501M X4) cannot be used manually without the APP. I have an iPhone5 which is rejected when I attempt to download the APP.
I have ordered an IPhone6. In the meantime is there a way to activate the Quadracopter without the APP using the HT009 transmitter?
