Hi totally new to this subject and have just received a 501 ???? therein lies the quandary. I ordered a 501ss which came from Hubsan BV Netherlands
(I'm UK)The box says it is a X4 AIR H501S Professional Edition the only literature is the quick start guide which also says X4 Air H501s
I queried with the vendor who assured I had the 501ss and the latest version. I then went through what I could and the controller says I have V2.1.50
V.1.46 . Googled this and found the post saying this should be a 501ss but also the latest versions have auto calibration well this one don't.
I don't want to wreck this on its maiden not knowing whether it was me or something aint right. Appreciate any advice

Not an expert on Hubsans, but saw you were not getting a reply.
I have the 501 SS and it definitely has the auto compass calibrate.
Are you getting a screen message that says That you need to calibrate?? Apparently with the new software you get no notification one way or the other.
The only way I know it is working is I verify that the compass is accurate on the screen.

You can get a 501 ss with or without the auto compass module fitted. The very latest ones will have the auto compass where ones like mine will have the older compass module fitted and you have to rotate the quad at startup and before each flight after a battery change.
As for it being an ss, you will see the spec on the small badge on the underside of the quad, next to QR code

Based on FC 1.1.46 you probably have the H501S-S.
If you look on the camera board below the battery and it you see H501A on it you have the latest H501S-S.
Your controller will say H501S because the latest ( sold after Summer 2018) and not NOS you should be set.
It still may want manual compass calibration vs auto calibration since not all H501S quads came with the updated compass board. FC 1.1.46 does support the auto compass board but often you land up calibrating the compass if you vary the nose of the Quad up or down and not flat.
