Altitude mod

Hi everyone
I have had a h501ss advance for about 6mths and want to remove altitude restriction, as I have on my h501s but everytime I connect to my laptop I get the connected sound but always goes into normal flight mode instead of mod mod, I have tried numerous cables but the same, any suggestions.
