Lost confidence

Post by jstremmler » Mon Jan 21, 2019 10:21 am

Today I went to the airfield of my model airclub and wanted to try waypoint mode for the first time.

I was establishing the connection, was drawing the waypoints , uploaded them and brought the Zino into the air. Height was approximately 23m.
Now I wanted to start my waypoint mission but....

- nothing happend.
- next I got the message : GPS signal lost (when I started my Zino I had 14 satellites connected and sky was clear, sun was shining but
we had a temperature of only 32F/0°C)
- now nothing worked anymore!!!
- I could not control my Zino anymore with my TX,
- I could move the sticks like I wanted but no reaction from the Zino
- therefore I could not bring my Zino down safely and land it
- it was just hanging at a height 23m in the air and stayed at its position
- but... finally, when the battery went down, it landed by itself.....
- positive: no damage; negative: confidence lost....

And I am not a newbie. I own 26 multicopters and 24 of them I built by myself.....

What a big mistake buying this Zino .
I have two h501s and they both fly great never had to
change the firmware on either one .
I have not yet flown my Zino waiting for Hubsan
to get it right at this point .

Oh man, I have had issues with my transmitter since I got it. Finally got a replacement and it seems it connects to the drone now. I am literally too worried to fly this drone. I don’t trust this enough just to test it for it’s maiden flight. If I crash or lose this drone due to it’s dodgyness will Hubsan actually look after me or just blame operator error? (This is my fourth gps drone, so I’m pretty competent, and I’ve not felt this unsure about trusting a drone since trying out a friend’s Xiro explorer)

Sad times

@josdoss : I am not a newbie, own 26 multicopters and build 24 of them by myself. Distance of my Zino from the TX was maximum 25m. And I could move the sticks and press any button on my TX the ZINO did not react. It was just holding its position in the air. (btw TX battery was fully charged, 4 LEDs were on)
So at the end I am glad that it was not flying away.

I suppose everything has to do with the message that the GPS signal was lost. But how can the Zino in a clear blue sky with no clouds loose its GPS signal in a height of 23m when I started it with 14 satellites being received at the ground. Did it loose connection to all 14 satellites flying a distance of only 25m? Think, what I envisaged yesterday was a serious and severe software bug.
Btw here is one of my self build hexacopters with a self constructed 3 axis gimbal:

@jstremmler

I don't question at all what you're saying, it was just to understand the dynamics of disconnections.
So, for you, it could be a serious drone management software bug?

Hello jstremmler ,

For the issue that the waypoint don't working, may I know if you passed the GPS accuracy before taking off?
Besides,if there still have 6 GPS satellites or above in the APP when you actived the waypoint function?

About the issue that can't control my Zino anymore with my TX, Did you try to press the button in the transmitter to check if there have button sound?or did you try to return to the APP last page or reconnect the USB cable?

Sure, the GPS accuracy test showed a difference of 1m which is from my perspective excellent. And I think if the accuracy test fails the waypoint mode is not available.
Today I tried it again and you may believe it or not everything worked fine.
Only difference was that today it was more cloudy and temperatur was 35.7F/1.5°C a little bit higher than yesterday. And my TX worked all the time...

I will upload the video from todays flight to youtube and post a link here.

Hubsan has had this "disconnect" issue for well over a year with the X-Hubsan App yet refuses to acknowledge it. It is not isolated to the Zino.
