WIth a limit of 60 frames/sec there's a limit to what you can do ;)
Easier to shoot in 60 and slow down in post.
Still going to be very jerky in anything more than about 1/2 speed.

If all you need is a a short segment, like one sec worth, the cheap 4K video cams can do this -
From a $45 4K GoPro-style cheapie:

PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEO SETTINGS
VIDEO: Select video mode. Press the OK button to start recording. When recording, the recording icon will flash. Press the OK button again to stop recording.
Video Options: Normal, loop recording (2 minutes,3minutes,5minutes), time-lapse video (0.5 seconds, 1 second, 2 seconds, 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 30 seconds, 60 seconds).
PICTURES: Select picture mode, the upper left corner of the screen will have a picture sign. Press the OK button to take the picture.
Picture Options: Normal, delayed timing (3 seconds, 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 20 seconds), automatic (3 seconds,10 seconds,15 seconds, 20 seconds, 30 seconds), trajectory (3P/S,5P/S,10P/S,20P/S)

So it IS something that can be done in software/firmware. And would be a really cool addition.

Sorry, I'm wrong.
I'd somehow got it into my head that the max frame rate was 60fps.
The A12S actually supports up to 240fps at 1280x720, or 120fps at 1920x1080.
You could therefore get down to 1/8 to 1/10 speed with reasonably smooth results.

So yes it's a good shout :)

I find this also quite interesting.
My first thought was „should be only an issue of data throughput“, and the Ambarella spec sheet Kind of confirms it: if you decrease resolution, you should be able to increase frame rate.
