I have been using my old phone without a sim card and it has worked well. It is a Galaxy S7 with Android 8.0.0.

My samsung note 8 works fine. I can have 20 apps running in the background and make a phone call at the same time as flying the drone.

The Huawei T3 7" MediaPad seems to work well, though I haven't tried the various flight modes.

The pad needs to have the wifi turned off in order to connect properly.
