Pros and cons so far

Post by Mavros777 » Thu Dec 13, 2018 11:56 pm

Just had a flight that lasted 17:52 minutes until 20% battery was left and was forced to land. I really wish we can override this because when you're only 5 metres away from the drone, you can safely go to 5%. I went straight up from my backyard but only went 373m
before it lost signal and wanted to return. With my h501s I managed 1374m and could have gone higher but the battery limits you. When you try to get flight log flight info, some of them don't load and the app crashes. Then the phone gives an error

The abnormal!Submit suggestions to the "user feedback center"!

This flashes on the phone until you stop all apps. Weird.

Also the control sticks are too sensitive to movements. It's hard to get delicate control of the zino.

The GPS test still fails despite having 19 satellites.

On the positive side, the drone flies fine. The photos and videos are crisp and smooth. Gimbal control is smooth. I still haven't had toilet bowling. No funny behaviour during the flights.

So Ailsa some suggestions

- update app to prevent crashing when look at flight details from the log
- give option to remove the 20%-left-must-land program
- increase range like the h501s
- Decrease sensitivity from the control sticks

Just had another flight late afternoon. I only managed this time to reach 270m altitude before it lost signal. I went 500m horizontal at around 100m altitude with a great signal and then turned back because it was already 10 minutes into the flight. I don't know why the signal cuts out so close when going straight up. Maybe it's the way I'm orientating the antennae - I am following the proper way??

The flight this time went for 20:42 minutes. There was a decent breeze blowing. It was a hot day as well.

This time at 15% it started descending. Because I can't override the the elevation control and can only move horizontally, I have to quickly make sure that where it lands is clear of any obstructions - sticks, grass, a mound of dirt, a rock. The zino is very low on the ground, the props are 3cm above the ground on the lower legs so they can easily get caught in something. The drone goes down quite fast and this time it landed on a tuff of grass that caused a slight dent in one of the propellers. It was good to see that motor stop spinning rather than with the h501s that keeps spinning.

It was another great flight. No funny business, no strange stuff. I've flown it enough times to be confident of flying it over water etc. I love the photos and video - but that's coming from a h501s, however I'm more than happy with the quality.

The gps test again failed (with 15 satellites!) but did say ok 5 minutes into the flight when I tested it again - it had 19 satellites then.

I did a waypoints flight. Cool stuff - have never done it before.

But again please ailsa make us have full control at 15% if we need it. Exactly as the h501s.
And that GPS issue.

You must avoid a LIPO battery falling below 20%. This will prevent abnormal wear of the battery and prolong its life.
A 20% must be landed, regardless of the make and model of the drone. Even DJI is up to 20%.

You are having the "donut hole"going on. The signal from your tx is spiraling out from it,but,in the center, its like a "donut hole". Look at your signal like a donut.you You are in the center,in the "hole"so to speak.Your signal goes out, there is a "hole"above you that is dead.
I hope this helps

Thanks for that but don't have the same problem with the h501s. With the h501s I do have to hold the TX at a certain angle the further away it is but I still get a signal. I also find that when I get get the right orientation with the TX I can turn it 180 degrees and it's fine too. So how do you suggest I hold the TX for the zino? I've tried different positions of the TX and the antennae.

The 501 uses a rhcp antenna(that's the flat panel antenna) it works differently from di-pole antenna.
Google is your best friend. There are loads of videos explaining how different antenna systems work. Please study those before going any further.

I had a couple of flights today. I managed 820m away at 50m altitude. I was really losing signal around 700m - the antenna direction was getting really fussy. Also I tried a max altitude test and discovered that 500m is the maximum altitude allowable. I've updated the android app and the gps test was ok with only 10 satellites! I don't know if this is due to the update or not. Another important detail I found out is the descent speed. It's around 2.5m/sec. The ascent speed is around 4m/sec. Roughly the same speeds as the h501s.

I'm updating my thoughts on the zino. Overall I'm happy with it.

Pros
- able to fly fine in strong winds. I've taken it 600m off the coast with a howling sea breeze and it manages to push through unlike the h501s that couldn't fight it.
- video is very stable even in the strongest breeze.
- doesn't lose horizontal position when descending even with a strong breeze.
- folding drone is so good for portability and being discrete when carrying it around in public in a case. Nice and compact.

Cons
- still no sports mode
- has lost connection a few times and I've had to restart the app or transmitter. This almost resulted in a crash once because it was automatically descending and into a tree.
- lag in controls. This almost resulted in a crash too. There will be lag and then it will disappear and be ok again.
- flight logs have disappeared a few times. I currently have no history. It's all gone. Really annoying from the app.
- controls too sensitive and hard to get smooth video when yawing or tilting camera.
- too much momentum when stopping. It goes a few more metres when stopping. I guess the heavier weight makes this happen.
- jello in fading video shots.
- shaking video when zino yaws in following mode.
- 3 hours to charge a battery. I have a spare but when you're out on a day trip it limits you.

Anything else people would like to add?
