Does an iPod work as well as an iPhone?

I have an iPod that will run the app and let me save my iPhone for other things. Will i get the same range from an iPod as an iPhone?

The phone has NOTHING to do with range.

I guess I am confused, doesn't the FPV signal come through the iPhone/Android device? On my little cheapie Snaptain A15H, the video relies on the phone for the video and the controller for the orientation/control. When I tried to use my iPod the range appeared to be greatly reduced.

I am assuming their are two range issues, the controller and the FPV. Otherwise, why connect the phone at all?
