H7000 TX 2.4GHZ problem

Hi all
i have an x4 501s which i have found to be a great Drone with no problems, recently i bought a damaged h7000 transceiver for not a lot of cash and repaired the damage and updated the firmware, it works fine with the Sunbird app working after a re install, controls my 501s ok ..but.. it only has a range of around 20 metres before the Rf signal drops to nearly zero and the drone is stranded in mid air..
my question is, and any help would be appreciated, as i have tested the aerial and there is continuity in the connection of the wire to the 2.4 ghz board, is this just a mismatch of devices as the h7000 transceiver was designed for the 109s drone, or as i suspect it is a fault with the 2.4 ghz board, maybe previous owner had it powered up without the aerial?
any help would be appreciated, and thanks in advance,
Rob.
