X-Hubsan APP Incompatible with Iphone5

A newbee with H501M X4. Attempted to download X-Hubsan APP to my Iphone 5. Result was "X-Hub isn't compatible with this device". Must I have a later Iphone version? Or is there another solution?

While I am trying to get a later iPhone version 5s or later, I would like to fly the copter manually. Does anyone know how to fly this version without the smartphone APP? I have tried everything I could think of but got no response from the machine.
