Silly question but did you unzip the files? I unzipped mine right to the desktop to make them easy to find. You need to use the appropriate hubsan upgrade tools. Sorry about bad info: battery should be plugged in for Rx upgrade but unplugged for FC upgrade. It may take a few tries to get it to read....

The 501a should bind with the h906a or what ever 2.4ghz controller you have. Only difference that I know of is the wifi chip in the 501a. Drone needs to have the battery plugged in prior to hooking the usb up. Seems to delete the firmware if you don't. Try with the battery plugged in. Be sure files are unzipped.
